Willow Springs library instructors, Bethany McDonald and Anna Swallow, love working with each student as they discover the treasures in our library. Each student has a weekly opportunity to visit the Media Center during Brain Boosters. Library time is a valuable opportunity to explore information and to read for fun. While having fun students also problem solve, develop organizational skills, and cooperate as a library community.
Each week we choose a grade-appropriate book to read aloud. Our goal is to empower students through stories which model conflict resolution, varied points of view, and character growth.
Some of our favorite recent read-alouds include:
- When Martin Luther King Jr. Wore Roller Skates, by Mark Weakland
- Mr. Tiger Goes Wild, by Peter Brown
- Amazing Grace, by Mary Hoffman
- Shooting at the Stars, by John Hendrix
- Don’t Hug Doug: (He Doesn’t Like It), by Carrie Finison
