Welcome

  • All members in attendance.
  • Shaliesse shared her thoughts on how successful the recent assemblies suggested by the SCC have been.

Review and approve minutes.

  • Sarajane motioned to approve last week’s minutes Megan Ord seconded the motion. The minutes were unanimously approved.

Continue writing TSSP and LAND Trust plans for the next school year.

  • Principle Hansen shared a presentation and the council discussed ideas for next year’s plan (see attached presentation)
  • Principle Hansen emphasized her desire to create a climate goal.
  • Shaliesse suggested linking goals to thrive time to help create climate goals.
  • Principle Hansen shared a wish list for funds which include BTS hours, lunch recess aide, attendance interventionist, teacher holiday discretionary funds, PBIS, school fundraiser and funding shade sails.
  • The council discussed possible ideas of ways to reallocate funds towards items on the wish list.

Review current year’s LAND Trust plan, data, expenditures, and review if on course or if amendments are necessary.

  • The school has hired a new interventionist.
  • Teachers had a half day to meet for professional development that Megan White viewed as very helpful.
  • Principle Hansen reviewed the budget, we have Land Trust fund left to spend.
  • Mid-year benchmarks from the Acadience, RI (reading inventory) and MCOMP testing were reviewed by Denise White. (see attached school data presentation)
  • Shaliesse apricates the current communication between teachers and parents about testing and scores.
  • It has been observed and discussed by staff that during testing the math function/symbol is often not looked at closely by the student. For example, switching a minus sign with a plus sign and solving incorrectly.
  • Shaliesse and Denise discussed how the current system elicits help from parents at home and at school with math. The concern is about those parents who can’t or do not help.
  • Principle Hansen talked about weekly PLC’s that meet and discuss what issues or holes are seen and how to help.
  • Jessica was room parent last year and she coordinated the volunteers to help in class, as directed by Mrs. Gil. The process was fluid and effective.
  • Sarajane asked about grouping students by level within class. Denise and Principal Hansen discussed how there is a mix of whole group and small group instruction in classes.
  • Shaliesse asked the teachers if the data we are reviewing is a true representation in their classroom. Alyx said it is a mix some student scores are reflective, and some are not.
  • Megan Ord talked about an observed gap from 5th graders going into 6th grade specifically in math. Principal Hansen suggested possibly inviting the middle school teachers to come and talk with 5th grade teachers.

  • Sarajane motioned to end the meeting, Jessica seconded the motion, the meeting was adjourned at 11:47am.
